The Cornell University Real Estate Department responsibilities include the acquisition, sale, leasing, development, encumbrance, and strategic planning of all Cornell's real property assets, and the management, construction, and financing of non-academic real estate. Cornell University has over 730 real estate interests located in 23 states, and 3 foreign countries. The university sponsors real estate development projects in furtherance of its educational objectives. These include: Providing academic and educational support space; Acquiring and protecting lands needed for current and future educational needs; Keeping Ithaca a great place to live by providing quality jobs, tax revenues, strengthening its economic base and taking a lead role in rational land use planning; Promoting the commercialization of Cornell technology; Contributing to the University's financial strength.
